    Original Civil War soldier's certificate of discharge, 1 pg., approx. 8-1/2" x 11", dated at
    Ship Island, (Miss.), April 10, 1862
    , discharging Jacob Watson, a 44 year old Private in Co. G, 8th Regt. NH Infantry, due to his "chronic Rheumatism".
    The certificate notes that Jacob Watson was mustered into the service at Manchester, NH on Dec. 20, 1861, to serve for three years. Less than 4 months later, he was discharged for disability.
    Signed by the Captain commanding Co. G, 8th NH Infantry,
    Henry H. Huse
    , (1839-1890), who was a 22 year old from Barnstead, NH when he was commissioned as Capt. of Co. G. He was promoted to Major on July 16, 1863, and discharged for disability on Sept. 22, 1863.
    On the back is a statement signed by William W. McKim, Capt. and Assistant Quartermaster U.S. Army, dated at Boston, May 19, 1862, noting that "transportation & subsistence have been furnished to the within named soldier from Boston to his place of enrollment".
