    Description

1872 letter written and signed by Emory Upton (1839-1881), a civil war general with commands in all three branches of the army (infantry, cavalry and artillery).  He started the war as 2nd lt. in the 4th artillery, then served as colonel of the 121st NY, and evetnaully the 4th division of the cavalry corps of the military division of the Missisippi.  Letter has some damage and is a challenge to read, but worth some time as it appears to deal with wartime matters.  Postwar Upton had army service including commanding west point; he committed suicide while in command of the 4th artillery at San Francisco in 1881.
This material comes from the Civil War autograph, manuscript and document collection formed by Frederick Peck and is guaranteed original and genuine.  Bid with confidence as I will stand 100% behind each item.
