    Description

    1873 John C. Robinson autograph note signed; on State of New York senate chamber letterhead.  Robinson (1817-1897) was a civil war brigadier general who lost a leg at Spotsylvania; he was awarded the Medal of Honor.  He started his civil war service as colonel of the 1st Michigan; he was promoted in April 1862 and served in the Seven Days, 2nd bull run, Chancellorsville, and notably at Gettysburg as well.  Postwar service included serving as Lieutenant Governor of Michigan and as commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. Letter is mounted to album page at left, is addressed to general Aspinwall, and deals with a water grant.
