Vintage Alaska Inuit Yup’ik carved shamans or spirit mask with original polychrome pigment or dye. These were used to communicate with the moon and talk with the spirit world. Don’t know the age or the exact wood used, but it looks like heavy drift wood or beach wood. Probably from the 1930’s or 1940’s I would guess. I’ve seen similar masks in the Alutiiq museum in Kodiak. Please check out my other great and rare Alaskan auctions.
